Note to companies or organizations planning to do a mapping project in Thailand
The OpenStreetMap community in Thailand is very proud of the high quality map data we created.
We want to keep up this high standard.
If you plan a mapping project in Thailand, please contact the community in the forum beforehand. We can discuss your mapping ideas and point to things to consider. We offer our help to make OSM even more successful.
When deriving features from imagery it is crucial to check the alignment beforehand against multiple sources.
If you consider mapping building footprints, it is important to create correct geometries, like right-angled walls and align with imagery.
You also have to do some quality control and mentoring when bringing in large amounts of inexperienced mappers.
Also take note of the Organised Editing Guidelines.
Companies and non-profit organizations regularly contribute to OSM using volunteers or paid mappers. Unlike individual mappers, these organizations are expected to follow the Organized Editing Guidelines and any consensus reached by the local community.
Grab have conducted remote tagging campaigns around the country since 2018.
